We’re excited to introduce Traveling the Seasons, a new musical from Songbird Musicals, created especially for children aged 3–6.
The musical follows four curious travellers as they journey through the changing seasons, meeting a remarkable tree along the way. Each visit brings something new to discover, from the patience of waiting for spring to the joy of sharing in summer.
Along the way, the children explore the natural world, learn a little about patience and generosity, and discover that there’s something wonderful to enjoy in every season.
To celebrate the launch of Songbird Musicals, Traveling the Seasons is available completely free for a limited time. It’s a chance to try out the musical with your class and see how it works in your own classroom.
A musical made for young children
Traveling the Seasons is designed specifically for Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms, with simple storytelling, memorable original songs, and plenty of opportunities for children to move, sing, and take part.
The performance lasts approximately 12–15 minutes and is designed for a group of around 11–20 children.
The story is led by a teacher narrator, with four traveller roles and a larger ensemble of children singing and performing together. The roles can be adapted to suit different class sizes, so you can make the musical work for your group.
Whether you’re planning an end-of-term performance, a special event for families, or simply looking for a creative classroom project, it’s a manageable way to bring music, movement, and storytelling together.
The story: A journey through the seasons
Four travellers set off on a journey through the year. As they move from one season to the next, they keep returning to the same tree, discovering how it changes and what each season has to offer.
In spring, they learn that some things are worth waiting for.
In summer, they discover the joy of generosity and sharing.
In winter, they find beauty in the quieter moments of the year.
By the end of their journey, the travellers have discovered that every season has something wonderful to offer if we take the time to enjoy it.
The story gives children a simple way to explore the changing seasons while bringing in ideas about patience, generosity, gratitude, friendship, and working together.

The musical features six original songs, written with young voices in mind. The melodies are accessible, the lyrics are memorable, and there’s plenty of room for movement and actions. The songs include:
- We Are Traveling – The opening song that sets the journey in motion.
- Wait! Wait! Wait! – A playful song about patience and learning to wait.
- Generosity – A joyful celebration of kindness, sharing, and caring for others.
- It’s Winter Time – A gentle song exploring the beauty of winter.
- Let’s Go Play – An energetic invitation to move, play, and enjoy the moment.
- Enjoy Every Season – The finale, bringing the travellers’ journey together.
The songs can be used as part of the complete performance or explored individually as classroom music activities.

Making the musical your own

The four traveller roles can be shared or expanded, and the script can be adapted to suit your group. Children can also contribute to the creative process by helping to design props, suggest movements, create simple scenery, and come up with their own ideas.
The central tree can be made using simple classroom materials, and the printable templates give you a starting point.
The aim is to give children a chance to take part in making the performance, rather than simply learning lines and following instructions.
